MEDIA ADVISORY: National Heatstroke Day Demo & News Conference - 10 a.m. Monday, May 1
Nearly 200 children have died in the United States in the last five years from heatstroke after being left alone in a hot car. That number is stunning. Sadly, Florida ranks second in the nation for child deaths in hot cars, with a tragic case involving a 2-year-old just last month in Port St. Lucie.
With the weather heating up, local leaders are coming together at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1, for National Heatstroke Day to remind parents and caregivers about the dangers of leaving their children unattended in hot cars. They will offer advice to ensure adults don’t forget their children is in the back seat. There also will be a visual demonstration of just how quickly the inside of a car heats up.
